Collegiate Programs

Showtime Basketball was founded in 2002 by a young Victorian-based basketball coach, Kelvin Taylor. The idea for an organization that could assist young Australian basketballers obtain scholarships in the USA came to fruition after discussions with several collegiate coaches who he meet with both in the USA and Australia.

US Colleges have always been on the lookout for great talent, and an opportunity to have a niche recruiting ground where the can build their program from is appeal to many coaches, while Taylor also knew that many young Australians were looking to play in the USA, but had no idea of where to start. Taylor saw an opportunity to help the development of the sport, and young Australian players in general by linking the two bases. Having coached in the powerful Victorian Junior Championship competition for many years, and with ABA experience behind him, there was no doubt he has an eye for talent. This linked with his extensive knowledge of the US collegiate system, makes Taylor the perfect fit for those looking abroad.

His knowledge of the US system comes from countless hours of research on the requirements necessary for Australian players to be eligible for a college scholarship at any level. The two key components he has a first-rate knowledge of are the academic requirements for each collegiate level, as well as an expert insight into the amateurism guidelines that rule the NCAA and other collegiate competitions. With the ever-changing rules within collegiate competitions in the USA, he is always updating his seemingly endless collection of US Collegiate literature.

Taylor can also provide prospective recruits with first hand knowledge and experiences of over twenty universities that he has visited since the inception of Showtime Basketball. He is constantly researching new collegiate programs trying to find the right mix for Australian athletes. Since creating Showtime Basketball, over 25 players have been helped by Taylor’s service, which is run free of charge to all Australian players, with many more players already contacting Showtime Basketball regarding future opportunities.
